User's guide
Following
Following watches the people and venues you name, reads their own tour, show or workshop pages once a day, and lists every upcoming date those pages show. There is no account to sign up for anywhere and nothing is emailed: the page is the alert. Following is an app an extension brings, so it is there only when the owner of your LifeOps installed it.
A followA name and the page to read
A follow is a person, such as a performer or a photographer who teaches, or a venue, whose calendar is read instead. Follow someone opens the form: the Name, Their page (the full address of the page that lists their dates), whether it is a Person or a Venue, a Section, What to keep from the page in your own words (such as only the headliners at a venue), and Why you follow them. On the web the form also asks Who they are to you: Watching, Worked with, On my trips, or Going soon.
A section is your own word for a group of follows. Choose one already in use or type a new one, which makes a new section; a follow with none stands under Other, last. Editing a follow is the same form, and Remove asks first.
The datesWhat each page showed, soonest first, with the marks that matter
Each upcoming date shows the date and time, the title (for a venue, who is playing), the venue and city, a ticket link, and the presale or on-sale time when the page states one, all as the page gave them. A date the page names only by month or year is kept, reads as that month or year, stays listed through it, and takes the exact day on the same row once the page names one.
- New: first seen in the last seven days, not counting the first reading of a page.
- A sale opening within the next week says when it opens, and stops once it has.
- The page’s own words about booking, such as Not open yet, Sold out, Cancelled or Postponed, are shown as they read.
- A date the page has stopped showing is struck through and says it is no longer on their page, until its day passes.
- Several nights in a row at one place are one row that opens into its shows.
A right-click on a date, or a long press on the phone, offers Star this date for one you are considering and Hide this date for one you do not care about; on a run of nights the same choices cover them all. The foot of a person’s dates counts the hidden ones, and pressing the count shows them again. Each follow also says when its page was last read and how many dates were on it, or, in red, that the page could not be read and why.
On the webFour views, and the browser remembers which was open
In a browser, Following answers at /following, with four views across the top. A search box, Find anyone, any place, any date, looks across all of them while it has text in it.
- People: the photographers you follow, the ones you have a relation with first. Each row shows the relation, why you follow them, their connections to other people you follow, and their next three trips. A name opens the person at the right, with Edit, their page, their dates, and their Connections: one person assisted another, guides for another, founded something, runs workshops for another, or works with another. A connection is added and removed there.
- Timeline: each person’s trips across the next fifteen months, one block per section, colored by the kind of trip, with a gold outline on a date you starred and a faded bar for a date known only to the month or year.
- Workshops: Your focus, cards with the place, days, price, spots and who leads; When they fall; New this week; and All trips, a table narrowed by kind of trip, by Only people I know or starred, and by words. The kind of trip (figure, landscape, culture and travel, wildlife, or teaching and print) is guessed from the trip’s words until you set it in the table.
- Shows: the dates of the follows in the Entertainment section, such as comedians and musicians, by date and narrowed by city.
A section that is neither photography nor Entertainment gets a view of its own after these four. A right-click on a person offers to open them, star them, edit them, or open their page. Every block folds, and the fold is remembered.
On the phoneThree cards: what is coming, every date by month, and the people
On the phone, the chips at the top narrow the screen to one section, and the choice is remembered. Coming up holds the dates you starred, the new ones and the sales opening soon, each naming its person; Dates by month is every upcoming date, a card per month; People is one row per follow, starred first, opening into that person’s dates. Tap a date to open its tickets, or their page when there is no ticket link. A long press on a person stars them. Pull down to read again. Every card folds and stays folded. The phone has no Timeline, Workshops or Shows view and no connections.
On the Day and in ClaudeA show and a sale opening reach your Day
The Day lists a show on its date and a ticket sale on the day it opens, with the time when there is one; pressing either opens Following. A Claude conversation connected to your LifeOps has a tool that reads every follow and its upcoming dates, with the same marks, in words.
